1) Name, Age, and Location.
Dan Seiders, 36, Twenty-nine Palms CA.
2) How did you hear about Fox Company, 506th?
Internet, WW2 reenacting search.
3) Do you have any reenacting experience? Have you done World War II reenacting before?
I have participated in Civil War Reenacting off and on for the last 17 years. I have not participated in WW2 reenacting.
4) Why do you want to join our unit? What drew you to us instead of some of the other Allied units in the CHG and RPS?
I have been researching WW2 reenacting ever since I heard about it a few years ago. Authenticity is very important to me, and from what I have seen on your website and reading through your new recruit information, it is very important to this unit as well. I have learned a lot about the Civil War by reenacting (its impact on the men who fought it, appreciation for the hardships, etc...) and I would like to gain that same understanding of WW2. I have been very impressed with the paratrooper units since I saw A bridge to far as a kid, and recently I introduced Band of Brothers to my teenage son, and started to do a lot of research to answer his questions.
5) What knowledge do you have of the Second World War? Are you familiar with the roles of the American paratrooper?
I have been a military history buff since I was a kid, and have read a few books on both the European and Pacific Theaters. As a Marine, I have a good understanding of the Pacific Theater, and I have read a few books on Normandy and Market Garden. My familiarity with the roles of the paratrooper comes from books, movies/shows, and personal study of major battles of the war through PME as a Marine.
6) Have you had any contact with World War II veterans previously?
Not recently, growing up I had a few friends that had family members that were veterans of WW2, I have meet a few at Marine Corps functions throughout my career.
7) What can you bring to this unit? Will you be an asset?
As a Marine Officer, although a pilot, I have a good deal of experience in infantry operations and tactics. I currently teach at the Marine Corps tactics/doctrine group. I am very familiar with firearms and am physically fit. I enjoy campaigning events when Civil War reenacting. I love history and teaching others about history and will gladly attend every event I can. I have no problem taking orders and understand how to be a team player.
8) Anything else we should know about you?
I am an active duty Marine, my current billet will not require a deployment, but I will only be stationed here till summer 2023. I hope to get started and support as much as possible, but the Marine Corps will rotate me to a new duty station then. I understand if this will cause issues. I believe I can make most events, but there will be some dates that I cannot get away.
I also have a 14 year old son, I am not sure about the rules in CA on reenacting ages, most Civil War units draw the line at 16, but he was allowed to be in camp and he supported the unit in a support/food roll.
New to California, is the process for acquiring a period weapon difficult? How much does a standard gear issue cost?
