Hello All,
My name is Brendan Krepchin, I am 18 years of age, and I live in Mountain View, CA.
I heard about the unit via my own research into WW2 reenacting. I found your website via the CHG site.
I do have reenacting experience. I have participated in Civil War reenacting with the American Civil War Association, and I currently sit on their board of directors.
I want to join this unit because of 2 reasons: 1) the 101st is an iconic unit from U.S. military history and any historian will tell you that it was the screaming eagles who made a noticeable impact during WW2 and 2) a good friend of mine is currently serving the 101st, so I feel that this may be a fitting tribute to him.
I am quite knowledgeable about WW2 as well as other significant parts of American and Military history. I wrote a paper during my junior year of high school about WW2 and I chose to write about Operation Overlord, which allowed me to conduct research on the units involved and the impact they had on the battle. Plus, I want to join the armed forces, so I have done research about the U.S. military for years.
I have met alot of WW2 veterans over the years, and I help out at my local VA hospital when I can. Plus, my grandfather served in WW2 with the Navy, but in the days following Operation Overlord, where he was working with the 114th Construction Battalion (Seabees), he came to know a few guys in the 101st and kept in contact with them for many years after the war.
I can bring my love for history, my urge to teach the public about history (especially those in our public school system who aren't exactly learning what they should about American history) and my commitment to honoring those who served our country in WW2. As for actual skills, I have a lot of knowledge regarding filing and processing paperwork (improved over the years at my civil war events) and when it comes to combat, I am not one to shy away from a firefight.
I hope to have the privilege of attending one of your events and learning more about the war as well as the men and women who preserve its place in history.
Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Brendan Krepchin
