Here's a pic of the crew from "That's All Brother" right after they returned from their D-Day mission. Check out the crude stripes painted on the plane. Also check out the pilot in the middle. He's holding his dog who apparently went along for the ride.

Great pic Swede! I have seen other pics that show the same thing on the invasion stripes, hand painted with brushes or a roller looks like and sloppy lines. I am planning on modeling a C-47 someday and was going to try and incorporate that detail somehow

I didn’t know C-47’s had such large crews? Great Pic!

I wondered that too Gipp. I figured 3 or maybe 4 crew members tops. As part of the 438th Troop Carrier Group, "That's All Brother" was, if the reports are correct, one of the lead planes (if not THE lead plane) of the D-Day drop, so it may be that it carried extra crew for navigation purposes. Lt. Col. David Daniel is the pilot holding the dog and I imagine the guy to HIS right is the co-pilot. Notice the knife hanging off his belt and gun strapped to his chest? That dude was ready for action!

That's a super cool picture. I have never seen that before. Also worth noting that the co-pilot's shoulder holster is not "treated" with polish or oil. Look at it in comparison to the hip holster the crew chief on the far left is wearing.
