Just a quick recap. Those that attended please feel free to add on and add pics as well.
Rabbit and I got to the C-53 "D-Day Doll" around 0730. It rained a bit on the way but it soon stopped and we had a nice mix of cloud cover and sunshine. Perfect weather actually.
It never got to be to hot. I got to finally meet Brian Wiswell, which was a pleasure. A big thanks to Brian for helping organize and add to the display.
The display was a hit. We had some great questions from the crowd.
The most popular part was actually having both Rabbit and myself fully dressed with chute and May West inside the C-53. We answered a lot of questions from the crowd that lined up to see the inside of the plane. It was a huge hit with the crowd and the owners of the plane. Lots of pics were taken of us by the public. Including some with a baby.
Paul A. and Fernie did a great job showing the crowd how to pack a chute.
On the recruiting front we were able to hand out some flyers and cards. I spoke to and handed out two sets of flyers to individuals interested in the hobby. I hope they log on soon.
There were several veterans there at the event which was great to see including Ed Pepping who gave a speech at the beginning of the event.
It was great to see Ed and he seemed in great spirits. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to see him the rest of the day. He wanted me to send his best to everyone.
On another special note, I also was able to meet the co author of "Fighting Fox Company" Bill Brown and his son.
I had a great chat with him and he told great stories about gathering research and information that went into writing the book with our very own Terry Poyser.
Special thanks to Rabbit for making the long hike down. Also thanks for adding to the display and all your help. Thanks again to Paul and Fernie. thanks again to Brian W.
All in all it was a great event and a great time. in the future it would be great to get more of us out there. I know its a hike and a pain in the ass but its one good way to get more of the public interested in history and in the hobby in general.
I will post pics soon.
