Just returned from son's "Turning Blue Ceremony" and Graduation from Infantry OSUT at Fort Benning. Seemed that the Airborne god (his DS) did not feel that Bill was worthy to fall from the skies after his Infantry training. So Friday after graduation, he and several others were shipped out to Fort Polk late in the afternoon--so did not get a whole lot time to spend with him. Arriving at Fort Polk, during his in processing--will be assigned to the 1st Bn, 509th Abn--he was asked if he would like to volunteer for Jump School! So the gods did change their collective minds about him and he will be going back to Benning at the end of this month for Jump School! The Army just gave him one of the best birthday gifts this young Trooper could get.
Just wanted to give you guys an update on his travels and adventures:-) Told him to ask about Pathfinder School while he was there--never hurts to ask.
AIRBORNE all the way!
Jim M

UPDATE his first week with his new Unit, all the new members (5) were given the AFPT for setting standards/evaluation of them. Of the 5 only 2 passed the test, Bill was one of them. But he was just shy of the magic number for selection to Jump School. So will re test next month. He was weak on his push ups, so he is pushing up like hell on:-) He is assigned to Charlie Co, Asst MG and is setting up his gear for the field later this month. All jazzed about being able to grow his hair out, as well as a beard--till Jump School. He seems happy with assignment and looking forward to perfecting his field skills. Time will tell! And yes he has shaped his beret and is looking forward to sporting it in style Jim M

The Geronimos have some interesting grooming standards and uniforms. I went to Polk and saw them at the PX and thought who the heck are these guys? I had never seen them before.
That’s a great assignment to make up for a really crappy duty location. Best wishes for his success there and hope he gets his airborne school slot soon.
