Texted with my son yesterday afternoon. He was out in the "Box"-the playground for the Op For at Fort Polk. Their latest victim is the 187th, out of Campbell. Seeing the smile on his face, even from here, I told him that they might surprise him. He replied "No way in hell!" Seems that they have a rep of poor field skills and less security concerns. Being an old Rakkassan, it pained me to hear that my old Unit has fallen so far. Seems that regular Army Units are by the book and that is what gets their asses kicked. The Op For thinks outside the box on regal basis and gets results. When you can capture a Command Post with 3 guys, who can you say. All I can say is the when I was with the 3/187th, we were the ONLY Bn in the entire Bde and that we got the job done--at least on the RECON side of the house:-) Only the professional, deadly and cool guys wore the cammies, be it ERDL or Tigers. We knew our business and took care of business!

Its true , Sir. My son was in 3/187, and he said they were more interested in being PT and parade ground studs, than being Infantrymen. Their basic field skills sucked. And he left there December of 2017. He said the first unit he was in 4-9 IN, 4ID, would have ran circles around them. They were rode hard and put away wet for a long time, to the extent that all the NCO’s had never deployed, because they were all new due to the attrition rate. The back to back deployments took a toll on the 101st. And also what 44 did to the military in the 8 yrs he was CnC. The equipment was real bad, that the time he was there, he always took trucks to the field, cause the birds were always down. Its a shame.

Looks like things to repeat themselves all over again! My Dad, who is in the Coastal Artery pre war, told tales of using broomsticks for guns, trucks marked as tanks--we all have seen the pictures. So very sad to think that this is how we prep for war. Even going up against Troops fresh from the Sand Box, they had their asses handed to them for the very same reasons--piss poor training and leadership from Sqd Ldrs up.
Having watch our Unit move in the field, would feel fair to say that we do a far better job than they do. Things are slipping back to where they were pre Gulf. And there will be a price to pay for this down the road!
