Hello,
I'm just gonna get to the chase and answer the questions.
1) Name, Age, and Location.
- Oliver, 16 years old (17 next month), Los Angeles, California
2) How did you hear about Fox Company, 506th?
-The Planes of Fame airshow had other CHG groups with displays. I got curious and looked at the website, where I found you guys.
3) Do you have any reenacting experience? Have you done World War II reenacting before?
- I have no reenacting experience.
4) Why do you want to join our unit? What drew you to us instead of some of the other Allied units in the CHG and RPS?
- For a long time, I've been wanting to experience what it was like being an American Soldier during WWII, and reenacting seemed like a great opportunity for that. The 101st Airborne is my choice because most US gear sellers have paratrooper uniforms for good prices, and that it seemed like this unit had the most members out of all of them.
5) What knowledge do you have of the Second World War? Are you familiar with the roles of the American paratrooper?
-I don't usually boast, but I know quite a lot about The Second World War, from the battles, to the uniforms, to the planes. I know it all. I am pretty familiar with the role of the American Paratrooper; I have watched Band of Brothers and A Bridge Too Far as well as reading multiple books on battles such as D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, and memoirs from an 101st veteran.
6) Have you had any contact with World War II veterans previously?
-Quite a few actually. I volunteer at the Palm Springs Air Museum from time to time, where they have some WWII veterans still volunteering there, including a B-29 radio operator and an AA Gunner at Iwo Jima. I've met two Tuskegee Airmen, one of which, Bob Friend, I was friends with until his passing in June. This past may I met Vincent Speranza, an 101st vet who's memoirs I mentioned earlier.
7) What can you bring to this unit? Will you be an asset?
-Morally, I am an optimist. Even in the most morally grounding situations I will think of good thoughts, and will try my best to make people laugh; I like cheering people up. Physically, I can run pretty far, pretty fast, making me a good runner, I can carry objects from point A to Point B pretty effectively too. Most treks are nothing for me too- I am a good hiker.
8) Anything else we should know about you?
-I can do pretty good voice impressions. But besides that, I just want it known that at the moment, I can't afford a car, and there will be chances that I will not be able to make it to events during the probationary period. Another note is that I am currently saving up for a Uniform, and I might not have a complete impression by the time I start my first event.
Hope to fight with you guys,
Oliver
