The unit has a strong emphasis on remembering and honoring the sacrifices veterans made in WWII.
This unit has had a heavy involvement with WWII veterans, in the past flying vets out to reenactments, holding panel discussions with veterans, interviewing veterans, and the unit Operations/Authenticity Sergeant SSgt Terry Poyser has published a book on Fox Company "Fighting Fox Company" (available on amazon, excellent read, highly suggested to read it to learn about the actual unit we reenact).
Researching a KIA is another part of how this unit remembers and honors WWII veterans. This involves choosing a WWII KIA veteran to research.
(guys correct me if I am wrong) The WWII veteran does not need to be from Fox Company, the 506th PIR, or even the 101st. However this is the Division, Regiment, Company that we reenact so this is more applicable, and narrows the focus.
I have heard other members do personal research or hire companies to perform research. The point is to learn about this person who gave the ultimate sacrifice during WWII.
I have been working on my research in my spare time for 1 year now, I have yet to receive any official documentation from the Army but am still waiting and have found some great information from other sources.
My KIA is Pvt. Thomas A. Knapp, A Company, 506th PIR, 101st ABN. I choose Thomas Knapp because he is from a location me and my family vacationed every summer when I was growing up, and my father remembers seeing his family name on some local businesses. This connection made it more personal.
There is a lot of good information in other areas of this forum which help with resources where you can find and research a veteran.

Correct. Does not have to be 101, however, try to pick one of the many 101st who served and died protecting our future. You can do more than one.
Offside: Rabbit. This is one of the reasons barracks were such a great place. We used to have the full discussion and ceremony.

Try to pick someone from your area. Mine was Ken Hull from Fox506th....a Napa native like myself. If you need help finding one, let us know. But the NARA (national archives) site can narrow a KIA search by county....and the ABMC site can find a grave overseas by State....
