1) Name, Age, and Location. My name is Theodore-Princeton Takano, however, my peers call me "Prince" for short. I'm 15 years of age, but don't be fooled by that number! I'm about 6 feet tall with a very mature personality. I live in Pasadena, California.
2) How did you hear about Fox Company, 506th? I found the Fox Company 506th from the California Historical Group website!
3) Do you have any reenacting experience? Have you done World War II reenacting before? I don't have any reenacting experience, unfortunately.
4) Why do you want to join our unit? What drew you to us instead of some of the other Allied units in the CHG and RPS? I want to join this unit because I want to act in one of the most important events in history, I'm also a very patriotic person and joining the Fox Company would be one of the most patriotic things I can do at my age. This unit is also the most organised and committed out of all the other ones I found.
5) What knowledge do you have of the Second World War? Are you familiar with the roles of the American paratrooper? Even though I haven't had a history class involving WW2 yet, I have lots of knowledge that I have gathered from books, documentaries, and even historically accurate video games! I am pretty familiar with the roles of American paratroopers, although I could learn more.
6) Have you had any contact with World War II veterans previously? Unfortunately, since most veterans from the Second World War are passing away, I haven't had the opportunity to meet one of them in person. However, I have met people who fought in the Cold War who were friends with WW2 vets, so I heard lots of stories from them.
7) What can you bring to this unit? Will you be an asset? I will bring my commitment and passion of World War 2 to the Fox Company. I strongly believe that I will be a great asset to the unit simply because of my interests and seriousness in this unit.
8) Anything else we should know about you? -I'm thinking of joining the U.S. Coast Guard when I get older. -I will most likely only be able to attend events on weekends (including Friday) during the school year (August 14th, 2017-June 1st, 2018). Going to far places on a weekday is impossible when I have school the next day.

Welcome to the forum Prince. Im Al Gehry and the unit Platoon Sgt. I live in Venice Beach. Right now WW2 reenacting is in a hiatus as events don't start picking up until the fall. Most events do take place on the weekends so no worries there. I will say that both the CHG and the RPS have strict bylaws that state that you need to be 18 to participate in events. This is due to legal and insurance issues. You can attend as a minor but with Parental or legal guardians present. All reenactment units go by these rules. That gives you plenty of time to read up on as much material as you can until you are 18. If you have any question feel free to ask. However you can also read up and do searches by subject on the board and you will find a lot of questions can be answered here. The FAQ and New Recruits sections are both good places to start. Also check in on the board often. Sometimes a public event will come up and you can attend those if you wish. Take care. A-

Thank you for the warm welcome. I was looking at the bylaws of the CHG and I will for sure get my parents present so I can participate. I'm more concerned about the firearm part, I found this passage in the rule book... "SECTION 4: MINOR MEMBERS AND FIREARMS A. All persons under 18 years of age must obey all state law regarding the possession of firearms. B. No minor under the age of 16-years-old shall be allowed to use or possess a firearm at a CHG event. C. Minors at the ages of 16 and 17 wishing to carry firearms at a CHG event may do so provided that either of the following conditions have been met: 1) Any minor participating in any CHG event with a firearm will be required to have his legal parent or guardian present and participating for the duration of the event." Looking at part B, I guess I'll have to wait a little bit until I can hold a real M-1 (my birthday is in May). Could I get an exact non-firing replica of an M-1 Garand in the meantime? I was looking at this M-1 in particular: www.historicreplicaguns.com/garand-replica-rifle.html

Unfortunately replicas do not work as we use blanks at tactical events. You are welcome to buy replicas for public displays and other events just as long as they pass authenticity standards. Don't go by one without getting an OK from unit leadership.

Does "Section 4 Letter B" mean that I can use an M-1 when I turn 16? Isn't the minimum age to hold and use a gun 18? Are the laws different for historical reenactments?

Basically there are two different types of reenactments. Tactical and Public. A tactical is when members create a mock tactical event where we use real weapons with blanks. There is a scenario based on a certain battle or event and all sides mock fight to accomplish their objectives. Public events usually take place at airshows, or other locations where the hosts have units come and set up period camps and displays. Since members of this unit are mostly from both northern and southern California, and even as far away as Arizona and Utah, we try to pick a couple of events per year to focus on. We participate in smaller ones from time to time but it depends on how many people can attend. Sometimes the hosts of these events want a public battle but that has become more rare as gun laws in California are changing. The ability to loan weapons to people might become illegal, hence making it difficult for you to use a loaner weapon. That all being said if you attend a tactical event and you want to carry a weapon you need to have a parent or guardian with you at all times. Meaning they would have to participate in the reenactment as well. The minimum age to own and carry a firearm is 18. Or you can participate as a medic. regardless you would still need to have a parent or guardian with you. Here are the rules. SECTION 4: MINOR MEMBERS AND FIREARMS A. All persons under 18 years of age must obey all state law regarding the possession of firearms. B. No minor under the age of 16-years-old shall be allowed to use or possess a firearm at a CHG event. C. Minors at the ages of 16 and 17 wishing to carry firearms at a CHG event may do so provided that either of the following conditions have been met: 1) Any minor participating in any CHG event with a firearm will be required to have his legal parent or guardian present and participating for the duration of the event. OR 2) In the absence of the minor's parent or legal guardian, the minor must have a designated CHG member who is an adult at least 21 years of age and will be responsible to supervise the member's use of a firearm. The minor will also have completed a CHG Parental Consent and Permission Form to possess and use firearms at the CHG events, in addition to the Informed Consent and Waiver of Liability form. Copies of both forms will be carried on the minor's person and also filed with the CHG Secretary. D. All minors must maintain close proximity to their parent, legal guardian, or assigned responsible adult at all times when carrying firearms at reenactments. E. Nothing in this section shall prevent individual Units from enacting further restrictions on the possession of firearms by minors as the unit deems proper to their function. F. Violation to any of these rules defined in this Section will result in the ejection of the offending member(s) from the event. A second violation will result in an Executive Committee review and may result in probation or suspension of the offending member(s). I hope this answers your questions. Here is the CHG page that has the waiver concerning minors. www.chgww2.net/headquarters

Greetings Prince
Thanks for your interest in Fox company
We are happy to meet new visitors of the unit
Please feel free to browse the forum and get a firm grip on the mission of the group
I am the supply Sgt and if you find that this is a hobby you are ready for, then we can outfit you with most of the gear until you have your own
I say most because you will first have to get jump boots... that is a requirement
When the time comes an M1 can be borrowed or you may choose to portray the medic impression until you can afford one
Don't let any of this scare you off as it will take time to accumulate a full impression... we've all been through it
In any event, try to prepare for our up coming season and get to know others on the forum
Hope to see you on the DZ

Welcome to the forums, Prince.
SSgt. Gehry answered the key questions you had about joining, specifically the handling of blank-firing firearms at tactical events.
You mentioned having a parent/legal guardian join you at events. One of them would have to actually join up with our unit to supervise you, as stated in the bylaws. It's pretty common practice with each unit.
The good thing is you have time to acquire your gear and read up on everything you'll need to know. And feel free to encourage your parent/guardian to join the forums as well. That will help!
Looking forward to seeing you on the DZ sometime.

I know that the bylaws say that I need to have a parent/guardian participating in the event, but I also noticed it said that I could have a CHG member supervise me:
"C. Minors at the ages of 16 and 17 wishing to carry firearms at a CHG event may do so provided
that either of the following conditions have been met:
1) Any minor participating in any CHG event with a firearm will be required to have his
legal parent or guardian present and participating for the duration of the event.
OR
2) In the absence of the minor's parent or legal guardian, the minor must have a
designated CHG member who is an adult at least 21 years of age and will be responsible to supervise the
member's use of a firearm. The minor will also have completed a CHG Parental Consent and Permission
Form to possess and use firearms at the CHG events, in addition to the Informed Consent and Waiver of
Liability form. Copies of both forms will be carried on the minor's person and also filed with the CHG
Secretary."
Could I just do it this way?

You can, but it's tough. The reason being is most CHG members don't want to assume liability for someone they don't know personally. It would be one thing if I knew you from way back when, but this is a first introduction. That's why it's best to get parents involved unless you know someone within the unit.

Prince, That rule you mentioned is if a unit member has a family friend that is a minor interested and the minor's parents put full trust and legal guardianship upon the unit member that invited the minor out. As an example lets say If I were to take my next door neighbor's son to an event. And my neighbor put full legal trust in me. That is seen as ok. You unfortunately are not in that position as you are a new member without any ties to a current unit members. Just be patient. You will be 18 before you know it. In the meantime read up on as much unit and WW2 history as you can.
