The Airborne Gods have smiled and found a young Trooper worthy of feeding sweat and blood to the almighty Airborne Tree. Pfc William J Monroe, 1st Bn, 509th Airborne will have his metal tested on the fields of Fort Benning Airborne School for the next three weeks. If he can keep his mouth shut and head up he should do ok:-) He reports in tomorrow and starts Ground School Monday. Graduation for this young Trooper will be on the 7th of Dec. Wish him luck in his first steps up the ladder in Spec Ops.

The whims of the Airborne gods are like the winds they guide, sometimes they work in your favor and others not. In my Son's case, not! Day 3 of Ground Week, he was dropped for not performing a proper Airborne push up. This was his second warning and was dropped. But having said this, keep in mind the starting number of his Class was over 400 and they dropped 80 that day! The up side is that fact that he was told, "see you in 6 months!" So the door is still open!
Returning back to his home Unit, with his tail tucked between his legs, he has learned a hard lesson. When in Jump School, it is the Jump School way or the highway. A fact that we have learned over the years. He just learned it a little harder way.
His spirits are still up and talking of Ranger School after the first of the year. Burst his bubble little more by telling him going thru Ranger School as a "Leg" totally sucks! Poor kid can't seem to catch a break. Such is Army life:-)

Matthew got dropped from Airborne school the same way. It seems they needed more room for REMF's and other non infantry types to go through Airborne school that cycle.......

When you drop over one quarter of the Class, it does make one wonder? ? I went thru a Dec cycle and is big/busy! You would think that the Ops Shop would plan better allow for a standard drop out rate. But when did logic and the Army ever get together:-) But he is on schedule for Ranger School in Feb '19 and working towards that goal. After all, if a girl can finish he'd better:-0 Ops, did I really say that? Times are a changing. Jim M

She didn’t make the same standards, neither did the one passing Q Course.
He’ll EARN his spot. He going to BATT after?

After the talk with his Bn CSM, the CSM said he would have no problem with him going over to Ranger Bn. The CSM is an old Ranger baby and plays the game in favor of the Reg! As for Bill, he would have no problem moving over to Bn. think he'd be floating all the way down the road:-)
