Hello Fox Company,
My name is Aaron Valenti. I am 26 years old and currently living in Texas south of Houston. I am moving to the San Francisco east bay in October and I am looking for places around Walnut Creek.
I found the CHG & RPS sites while searching for WWII reenacting units in California. I started looking into the units and I was very impressed by the 506th. The 506th seems to sets themselves apart in a dedication to historical accuracy. I have had an extreme interest in WWII history, equipment, and weapons since I was young and I want my WWII reenacting experience to be as authentic as possible.
The only reenacting experience I have is running around the woods in Michigan as a kid with whatever gear I could get my hands on playing out WWII battles with my friends (I have no formal reenacting experience). I actually just learned that WWII reenacting existed while at an air show I attended in Michigan.
I have been interested in WWII for 20+ years. A majority of my knowledge has come from WWII documentaries (especially the PBS Battlefield series). I have also read some books and done online research around various WWII battles and technology. I have never met veteran from WWII. My specific areas of interest are centered on the Navy & Marine war in the Pacific, and the Airborne Divisions from Operation Overload till the end of the war. I have some familiarity with the role of the US paratroopers during WWII, and am extremely excited to learn more.
I want to become a reenactor to further my understanding and knowledge about WWII as much as I can. I believe that joining a unit that takes authenticity so seriously is the best way to start. I am motivated and extremely excited to experience this time period and to share what I learn with others.
While in Middle School and High School I was an active member in the Civil Air Patrol. There I learned a great deal. Some basic things include military drill, how to shine shoes to a mirror finish, make a bed with hospital corners (I remember trying to get a quarter to bounce was difficult but those were some tight sheets), and keeping a uniform to the highest standards (both Class A and Battle Dress Uniform). Field skills I learned were navigation with a topographical map & lensetic compass (it has been a while but I was pretty good a number of years ago), basic first aid, and search and rescue techniques geared to finding crashed/missing small air planes.
