1) Name, Age, and Location.
Good morning everyone. My name is Ryan Beauchamp. I am 22 years old and live in San Diego.
2) How did you hear about Fox Company, 506th?
I have been curious about joining a reenactment group and found Fox company on the CHG website.
3) Do you have any reenacting experience? Have you done World War II reenacting before?
Personally I do not but everyone has to start somewhere!
4) Why do you want to join our unit? What drew you to us instead of some of the other Allied units in the CHG and RPS?
I want to join the unit to honor and represent those brave men who fought in war to destroy the German war machine in nazi Europe. To be able to teach history and enlighten people who do not know much of the war. This group drew me in by the way that they relive the history of the paratroopers in the war. Men jumping out of perfectly good airplanes behind enemy lines. Reading some of the discussions, I’ve learned every members embodies the history of the 101st and the men who fought for it.
5) What knowledge do you have of the Second World War? Are you familiar with the roles of the American paratrooper?
Ever since I was little, I’ve been fascinated by the stories of heroism and dedication during the war. Every chance I could get to learn about the Second World War, I took it. Books, movies, lectures and listening to vets. I am familiar with the American paratroopers duties during the war and the history behind them.
6) Have you had any contact with World War II veterans previously?
During high school I was apart of a naval youth group call the United States Naval Sea Cadets Corps. During my 4 years in the program, I attend numerous events where I was able to talk with vets from many different conflicts including the Second World War. I always found myself talking with the WW2 vets the most.
My grandfather was a merchant marine in the pacific and his brother was a Marine fighting in places like Guadalcanal canal and Iwo Jima.
7) What can you bring to this unit? Will you be an asset?
I’m currently an EMT in the City of San Diego and on the path to becoming a paramedic. From being an emt, I have learn patience and quick reaction in difficult scenarios. During my times in the naval sea cadets, I reached the rank of Petty officer 1st class, leading my whole unit for more than a year. I learned about leadership and teamwork. Being a good leader meant leading by example. But to become a leader, you must first learn how to follow. I know I will be at the bottom as a FNG. I am willing to learn as much as I can and be apart of the team that honors those who’s shoes this group is filling.
8) Anything else we should know about you?
History teaches us that not all men are good. There are things that people would never dream of and things that kept people up at night. The way we learn from our history is by not forgetting it. By being part of this group, I hope to learn and teach others. Keeping the history alive and always reminding the world of where we were 75 years ago. Also if there is any info on possible medic spots, I’d love to represent a medic from the war. Love the medical side of it and how much has changed in combat medicine since the Second World War. Thanks!
